Hello everyone is your host Jrake and today I have with me Zynovox from Lagos, Nigeria, and today he is here to discuss his latest Afro and Drill EP “MIDDLE EAST” Welcome Zynovox. Before we begin our interview, to fans out there here is what needs to be known about this talented Musician.
From the quiet streets of Braintree, England, to the vibrant sounds of Lagos, Nigeria, Zynovox emerges as a bold new voice in the Afro-fusion space, an artist whose music carries the weight of personal experience, cultural depth, and undeniable ambition. A performing and recording artist with a distinct sonic identity, Zynovox blends Afrobeat, Afrodrill, and street-inspired rhythms to create music that feels both deeply personal and widely relatable. But Zynovox’s journey is more than music, it is a story of transformation. His sound is not accidental; it’s intentional. Built from lived realities of heartbreak, hustle, nightlife, and spiritual growth, his songs speak to a generation navigating emotional chaos and social complexity.

To begin with, let’s review your recent work.
What is the inspiration behind MIDDLE EAST?
The title MIDDLE EAST represents where I’m from and where Omofaaji, my collaborator, is from. I’m Igbo from Eastern Nigeria, and he’s from the Middle Belt. So the name is symbolic. But beyond geography, it’s about meeting in the middle, bridging different cultures, sounds, and creative energies. This project is our way of stepping out, introducing ourselves to the world with something bold, honest, and versatile.
Everything you hear comes from real life, my emotions, the things I’ve seen, and what I’ve lived through. In “Hustle,” I touch on betrayal and the grind. A guy I once trusted stole from me in a business deal, and instead of reacting recklessly, I channeled that pain into the verse. The lyrics throughout the EP range from reflective to healing, educational to celebratory, each one grounded in truth.
It’s personal. This is me saying, “Look, this is who I am.” It reflects where I am mentally, hungry, locked in, and growing. MIDDLE EAST is like the soundtrack to this chapter of my life. It shows my resilience, versatility, and evolution. It’s bigger than music, it’s a statement.
Unlike previous drop or single, this one had a clear intention. I wasn’t experimenting, I knew exactly what I wanted to say. The project tells stories, shows range, and connects my background in Nigeria with my current experience in the UK. Sonically and thematically, this marks a major step forward in my journey as an artist.
I want people to feel it, really feel it. Whether it’s heartbreak in “All I Need” or survival in “Hustle,” I want the listener to connect. If someone’s struggling or trying to find their path, I want this project to remind them they’re not alone. There’s hope, grit, and truth in every line.
“All I Need” is deeply personal. It’s about love lost, trust broken, and trying to move on even when you still care. I mixed Igbo and English to keep it authentic, and the vulnerability is real, it’s my story.
“Hustle” carries another side of me, the street smarts, the pain, and the code. It’s intense, raw, and unapologetic. That track is a warning, a lesson, and a reflection of how betrayal can reshape your mindset. Both songs deliver powerful messages in their own way.
Re-recording my verses after getting feedback that my accent was “too igbotic” was tough. It stung, but I took it as a challenge and refined my delivery. Also, recording in the UK while my collaborator was in Nigeria made things tricky. Studio sessions here are expensive, and you often have to book weeks ahead, unlike Nigeria where things are more spontaneous. But despite the distance and delays, we pulled it off. That’s the highlight, we made it happen.
It fits perfectly. I’m in a season of building, learning, and evolving, MIDDLE EAST captures that energy. It reflects both who I am now and who I’m becoming. This project helped me refine my voice and clarify my purpose, not just as an artist but as a person.
The support has been amazing. People are vibing with “Hustle,” “Wahala,” “Gbera,” and “Jennifer” the most. I’ve received heartfelt DMs from fans saying the songs speak to them on a deep level. That connection is priceless, it tells me I’m doing something right.

Absolutely. I’m working on more singles, visuals, and possibly a new EP or full album. I’m experimenting with new sounds, linking up with more artists and producers. This is just the first chapter, there’s more to come, and it’s going to be even crazier.
It’s not easy. The pressure can get intense, but I try to stay grounded. I make time for myself and the people that matter. Music is my passion, but I’m learning that rest and balance are necessary too. Self-awareness helps me manage both sides.
Most people don’t know that I studied architecture. I got an architectural degree in Nigeria and even pursued my master’s in construction project management here in the UK. That background helps me see music differently, I approach it like design. Every verse, every beat, every structure has intention behind it.

Here’s a brief feedback of what I have to say after listening to a couple of tracks in the EP, ‘MIDDLE EAST’ is a fusion of Heartbreak, joy, ambition, confidence, and love. It’s an EP that speaks directly to the youth navigating multiple worlds, such as African traditions, British realities, digital pressures, and emotional introspection. This EP embodies the full spectrum of the human experience, joy, pain, hope, and grind and the title Middle East reflects a symbolic midpoint, a metaphorical space between struggle and triumph, between emotional vulnerability and energetic confidence.
‘MIDDLE EAST’ is a genre blend of Afrobeat and drill, capturing the essence of resilience and ambition. every track in this EP offers a unique viewpoint.
