GREAT TIME released their debut record GREAT ALBUM in April 2018. Their music genre are Acoustic, Rock, Pop, Neo-soul, Hip Hop, Indie Pop, Electronic, and Alternative. The person’s behind this amazing band are Jill Ryan, Zack Hartmann, and Donnie Spackman with the band’s Hometown being Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. The trio combines their eclectic musical influences with a discerning approach and a small serving of goofs; one listens front to back will have you forgetting whether you’re couch surfing or crowd surfing. After graduating from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC in 2015, singer Jill Ryan, bassist Zack Hartmann, and drummer Donnie Spackman launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund their recording studio situated on a farm outside Philadelphia. 2 years of labor has culminated in a home base where the trio records/produces their own music, builds custom recording equipment, and fosters a community of some of Philly’s most talented musicians and artists.

Great Time Band performing live

At their live shows, GREAT TIME’s range inspires a kaleidoscope of emotions (not to mention dance moves). Their music attracts all types of ears and is influenced by artists that go as hard as Nirvana, as gentle as Sufjan Stevens, and as dancy as Little Dragon. They plan to continue expanding their sound with a steady release of music through 2019-2020. Besides their extensive history at local Philadelphia venues including the TLA and World Cafe, Great Time has toured the country as a headlining act, as well as in support of artists such as Caroline Rose, SALES, Turkuaz, Bailen, and at festivals including SXSW in Austin, Texas. When it comes to music, Great Time doesn’t see the point in worrying about what a smashing hit the release would be as they just want to have a great time as the band name implies.

The band has been exploding since their first release and with the current release ‘feather’. Listening to their music, however, evokes a contrasting sensation: Their spirited rock is more likely to grab your attention, rather than induce yawning. The album’s title track is a twisting path of disjointed, choppy guitar and thrashing drums. Their tireless rock sound, which you can experience at full blast on their release Rushin, fits right in among the indie rock genre ranks. Their most recent single Rushin’ made a splash in the radio world after Jill debuted the single at NonCommvention in April 2019.

WXPN’s Bruce Warren says “If there weren’t already a song called ‘Feel Good Hit of the Summer, this would be called that”. “Our biggest musical influence collectively is a band from Gothenburg, Sweden called Little Dragon. We admire how they manipulate sounds and bring a soulful, natural essence to electronic synthesizer music. I feel both a sense of strength and lightness when I hear ‘Feather’ and performing it live recently has been our way of paying homage to this band that we look up to so much.” – Jill Ryan (Vocals, Flute, Saxophone).

GREAT TIME has been on the rise since the release of their debut LP ‘Great Album’. Producing “electronic pop songs in the vein of Twin Sister, Sylvan Esso, and Little Dragon”, the trio, along with a host of featured artists, combines their eclectic musical influences with a small serving of goofs, creating a sound that “ranges from ambient charm to thrashing rock“ and “bridges the sonic gap between Thundercat and Men I Trust”.
