About Michellar
For Michellar, songwriting has never simply been about creating melodies. It has always been a way of translating emotions, memories, and curiosity into something tangible. Although she first began writing songs at just fifteen years old, life eventually led her away from music for several decades. During that time, her creativity never disappeared. Instead, it found expression through poetry, prose, scripts, and short stories, allowing her to continue developing as a storyteller while quietly waiting for the moment when songwriting would once again become part of her life.
That turning point arrived in 2023 after her acceptance into the deYoung Museum Open Call Exhibition, an experience that restored her artistic confidence and reignited the creative spark that had been dormant for years. Since then, Michellar has embraced songwriting with remarkable commitment, releasing twenty-two singles in just nine months while continuing to refine a musical identity rooted in honesty, imagination, and emotional openness.
Based in San Francisco, a city long associated with artistic freedom and creative experimentation, Michellar has found an environment that encourages individuality rather than conformity. That freedom naturally extends into her music, where she explores emotions that often remain unspoken. Bringing that vision to life required close collaboration with Nashville based producer Michael Beckheart, whose appreciation for psychedelic music made him an ideal creative partner. Michelle Bond wrote the song’s lyrics and melody while Beckheart developed the production, building the arrangement layer by layer until both artists found the immersive sound they had envisioned. The recording process spanned two cities, with demos and vocals recorded in San Francisco before production, mixing, and mastering were completed in Nashville. Multiple arrangement revisions followed, each moving closer to the atmospheric balance they were searching for until the final version captured exactly the feeling they had imagined from the beginning.
Throughout both her music and visual artistry, Michellar approaches creativity with an enduring sense of curiosity. That curiosity continues to shape not only the stories she tells, but also the worlds she builds around them. Rather than chasing trends, she follows emotional instincts wherever they lead, embracing experimentation as an essential part of the creative process. Tehillah:
Your relationship with songwriting began when you were 15, followed by a long hiatus before returning to this creative path with renewed confidence after your acceptance into the deYoung Museum Open Call Exhibition in 2023. Looking back at that period of stepping away and eventually finding your way back to music, what personal changes or experiences helped reignite the songwriter within you?
Michellar:
Returning to songwriting after a long hiatus has provided me time to mature and stories I experienced throughout my artistic life. These experiences have provided me with substance to write about. I tried writing songs within those 40 years, and for some reason, the songs were not coming to me. So I wrote poems, prose, scripts, short stories instead, just so I can keep writing.
After building my confidence in knowing who I am…artistically, I have become comfortable in my own skin and is able to tell these stories of love, struggle , pain and happiness.
Tehillah:
Growing up surrounded by the sounds of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Doors during your teenage years clearly left a lasting impression on your artistic identity. What was it about those artists and the worlds they created through music that connected with you so deeply, and how did those early influences shape the way you express emotions today?
Michellar:
I remember watching the Movie “ The Song remains the Same” in my teen years. The sounds, music and visuals resonated with my inner self and I felt really comfortable in that realm. That music took me through a very imaginative teenage life and have stayed with me throughout these years.
Tehillah:
Coming from San Francisco, a city known for its rich history of artistic exploration and counterculture, how has your environment influenced the way you approach creativity, visual expression, and the kind of emotional spaces you want your music to create?
Michellar:
Being based in San Francisco, provides me with the space that I need express my individuality. From a very early age … that felt I didn’t quite fit in with the normalcy of my friends and family. Somehow …someway I have always been regarded as having a certain artistic way. San Francisco has provided me a space for being me.
Tehillah:
Your music combines raw emotion, psychedelic nostalgia, and a sense of sensual escapism. How would you describe the artistic identity you have built as Michellar, and what do you believe separates your approach to storytelling and sound from other artists exploring similar vintage-inspired influences?
Michellar:
Being sensual is not quite the same as being sexual…. The former is more refined… and can be a lot sexier in delivery. I always like playing that emotion in more ways than one. Sensuality was always looked at as an undesirable subject that doesn’t need exposure. A emotion that needed to be restrained… especially growing up in a very religious household. I held back a lot of those emotions growing up. I was a very quiet, introverted and private. My approach to Music is different from other artists because I don’t force those feelings …accentuate or hype them so that I can belong to a certain kind of artistry. Instead I write songs with emotions that come straight from my heart through lyrics and melodies. I feel this opens up the connections with others who share the same attitude or feelings that I have.

You have described your music as a place where curiosity and personal exploration meet. When creating songs, how important is it for you to follow those unexpected emotional instincts and allow your curiosity to guide the direction of the music?
Michellar:
From the day I was born… I believe I am curious. It drives everything that I do. It gets me into a lot of trouble… experimenting.. being adventurous and spontaneous a lot of times. This song Is driven by the mere curiosity of trying to find out if the other person felt the same way about me. I believe it is important to follow those emotional instincts when writing because they are true, raw and genuine. When the curiosity and instincts guide you through the process… a lot of magic happens in the storytelling that captures the essence of the zone. From that first note and progression to the next lyric and story …. I find myself surprised all the time with what comes out after every session.

Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind explores obsession, desire, and thoughts that are difficult to express openly. The song transforms internal experiences into something listeners can hear and feel. What inspired you to finally give those hidden emotions a voice through this particular song?
Michellar:
Obsession and Desire … is always held in restraint. For most people … it is taboo to say out loud culturally…what one really desires for reasons of shame, fear, inappropriateness or rejection. At times … those feelings are held back so much… it kills the human spirit and experience … the Love … the Ultimate reward. By writing this song,I hope… people will connect with whatever their obsessions are and be open to accept that and channel the energy in a positive way as I did.

The title Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind immediately suggests the intensity of thoughts that refuse to disappear. When writing the lyrics and melody, how did you approach capturing the difference between ordinary attraction and the overwhelming emotional weight of obsession?
Michellar:
This song was written outdoors in the dark, warm and silent space. The silence penetrated the space and the sound of my acoustic guitar echoed in my head … spilling the words and melody with the emotions and imagery at the time. I couldn’t keep those thoughts in anymore and I had to express them somehow. It came out in this song. The difference in the expression is the intensity of that feeling that kept me awake, burning …into the wee hours of the morning.

There is a fascinating contrast in this release between vulnerability and escapism. The song comes from deeply personal emotions, yet it also creates an immersive psychedelic atmosphere where listeners can lose themselves. How did you balance revealing something intimate about yourself while still creating a dreamlike experience for your audience?
Michellar:
I wanted to escape into a realm of pure tantric love when I wrote this song. I wanted intimacy yet I can only dream about it. I needed an escape and this song became that escape.
Tehillah:
Working with Michael Beckheart brought together two artists who share a passion for psychedelia. From recording demos and vocals in San Francisco to developing instrumentals and completing the final production in Nashville, how did the distance between both locations influence the creative process and the final sound of the song?
Michellar:
The creative process was seamless. Michael had a passion for psychedelia that I felt from the very beginning. By listening to his tracks, I knew he could deliver the vision I had for this song. I had some difficulty finding a producer who create psychedelia songs nowadays. I met him through another collaborator I met in a retreat.I am so fortunate to have found him. He is the perfect collaborator for this project.His musicianship and creativity found me in awe of his ideas and approaches to production.

You mentioned that the track went through multiple arrangement changes while searching for the perfect psychedelic feeling, eventually reaching a version where the sound felt naturally connected to the original beat and melody. What were some of the creative discoveries you made during that process, and how did you know when the song had finally reached its true form?
Michellar:
We started out with a more acoustic take to the song but felt was missing some edge. Then we changed it up to some latin influences …but felt it was not close to psychedelia and when Michael came back with a version that struck a chord in both our curiosities … we both knew we were headed into the awesome space of psychedelia.
Tehillah:
With influences like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Doors shaping the atmosphere of this release, how did you and Michael approach bringing those psychedelic elements into a modern recording while still making sure the song reflected your own personality and artistic vision?
Michellar:
Michael has a way of artistically developing the sound we were after … one instrument at a time… building it in layers and expanding the sound so that we found the atmosphere we needed to be inside of. He is a true genius in this track. He asked about what I love about the genre and which Bands I resonate with in that era. By that, he created a track so close to what I had envisioned. Being a member of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, his musicality is vast and proficient in new modern avenues.

Your visual identity and artistic expression appear to be closely connected with the music you create. How do you approach building a complete experience around your songs, where the sound, imagery, and emotions all work together to tell a larger story?
Michellar:
I’ve been arranging music and sounds in my head since I was a kid. Besides being a visual artist… sound always fascinated me because it not tactile. It is immersive ..
A medium that can take you places without even touching you or using your eyes. Understanding that Music has a power…. No other ART can deliver… it is magical. It travels through air …invisibly and it is all up to ones imagination to capture its true essence. A certain magnetic power clings even if its only a few minutes. That connection circuits the mind and heart instantaneously.
Sounds, imagery and emotions all combined into a circuitry of MUSIC powers humans to their most infinite capability… Imagination.
Tehillah:
After releasing 22 singles in nine months following your creative return, you have shown an incredible level of artistic productivity. What have you learned about yourself during this period of consistent creation, and how has returning to songwriting changed the way you view your own abilities?
Michellar:
The most wonderful part about this reemergence… is the writing. Writing songs have become a place for me I call home. I can be myself in it. There is no holding back in this space. That is a breath of fresh air for me. The sky is the limit. The productivity comes from The experimentation using my curiosities. I learned that I can create what my heart desires. My heart has a burning desire for a long time.The productivity came along with a lot of challenges. As result, I had to be disciplined, strategic and budget conscious as I move along the music industry.

Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind serves as the first glimpse into your upcoming psychedelic album planned for Spring 2027. How does this song introduce listeners to the larger world you are building, and what themes or emotions can people expect to experience throughout the album?
Michellar:
The songs in this album are turning out to be journeys on their own. They are immersive and full of story telling through imagination. Emotions of Love, Despair, Defiance and Wonder and more sensuality are all going to be wrapped up into it. I am very excited about it.
Tehillah:
The phrase, “Curiosity kills the cat. I think we both killed it on this song,” captures the adventurous spirit behind this collaboration. What does curiosity represent in your creative process, and how has following that curiosity helped you discover new sides of yourself as an artist?
Michellar:
Curiosity shape my world. A lot of folks tell me I should refrain from it because it gets me in trouble. But for some reason… I always emerge alive… sometimes hurt but with those scars I am more adventurous than ever.
Tehillah:
Music often becomes a place where listeners find words for emotions they struggle to explain themselves. When someone hears Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind, what personal reflection or emotional connection do you hope they take away from the experience?
Michellar:
I hope they take their obsessions to heights that will take them places. Imagination has no limits and I encourage the listeners to use that to their full capacity when listening to the sounds of this track.

As you continue developing your upcoming psychedelic album and expanding this new chapter of your artistic career, what future possibilities excite you most, and what kind of legacy do you hope Michellar’s music creates for listeners who discover your work?
Michellar:
What excites me is the journey. The discoveries and the challenges drive my constant need to create… whether that may be solo or through collaborations… its been so much fun creating something or finding someone new to create with. Its beautiful to connect. I hope that listeners can find themselves inside the spaces I create, musically, visually and emotionally. After all… we are all part of the same race… the human race.
