Skylarka – Somnorine Album Review: A Dream-Forged Journey Through Consciousness and Experimental Sound

Skylarka is an American musician and producer from New York City. She is well-versed in DIY punk, metal, and jazz. She made the most sensible and audacious decision to become a VTuber after developing long-term COVID-19, directing her creative energies into producing electronic music for online streaming. She adores 80s synthwave aesthetics with a distinctive dark synthwave sound influenced by chiptunes. In the end, she’s just a tiny gremlin having fun on the internet

On December 19, 2025, she released “Somnorine,” her second full-length album, with the intention of provoking thoughts in every listener. Her online community assisted her in shaping the direction of the tracks on this album, which she primarily streamed live on Twitch. Her spouse Juzelle, was in charge of designing the album cover. She drew influence for this album from musicians like Iron Chic, Bart Howard, and Charlie Parker. Given that each song on this album is based on a real dream that Skylarka had, it is big to highlight that this album is very personal for her. The album addresses anxiety, dream experiences, reality, awareness, and human existence in general

Somnorine Album Track List:

Half-Remembered:
The song begins with a calming serenity of ambient and eerie textures, tinged with gritty undertones that give it a strong, profound resonance. The sounds are growing and brooding. The music has a sense of mystery because of the piano-like melodies concealed in the shadows, which are gentle and cause whole scorching sensations that resonate in your senses. At the same time, hefty, gritty, textured analog synths start to emerge from the shadows. The arrival of strong, blazing synth-pads gives the music a driving force and energy as it gradually starts to evolve. Sharp synth lines start to move within the melody’s boundaries. The progression is still gentle and serene, but it has electronic textures that give you the impression that you are both displaced and discovered in a mystical maze of dreams. With every second that goes by, these electronic textures get louder and heavier, like a weight being placed on your shoulder while still comforting you. This song is truly a work of electronic inventiveness and serenity.

Pallid Moonscape:
The beginning tone of “Pallid Moonscape” is happier and brighter, with a hint of melancholy. The repeated pattern of more synth layers at the beginning is both funky and gentle, and the initial synth lines have an infectiously joyful energy that follows them. As the song progressed, harsh electronic elements with synth lines that drew from one end to the other were incorporated. This song has a warm vibe because of the percussion intensity that accompanies the beat. The track has a remarkable aura because it incorporates several synth layers, harmonic textures, and subliminal ambient tones. It feels like you’re trapped gazing at the moon. Listening to this song makes you feel pleased because of its a consistent pattern. The synth lines have a beautiful, well-arranged tonal movement. The synthlines’ repeating pattern is so complex and well-layered that it sounds like voices in your head. A truly beautiful work of artistic expression.

Unearthly Vagabond:
“Unearthly Vagabond” begins with densely weighted soundscapes from a synth that echoes like a deep bass note, revealing an amazing sense of cosmic serenity. Soft textures move in the background as amplified rhythms, strings draw quietly, and strong bass-like synth lines move steadily. The sounds are subtle but distinct. How the composition unfolds has a scorching sensation that is concealed by the track’s own shadows. It reaches a moment where the track’s gentle, serene tension rises without losing the weight it once held. The key component of this song is its consistency: it features powerful synth rhythms, drone-like movements, gentle textured stringed lines, and harmonic alterations. Haunting and soothing melodies blend harmoniously in this track, which fuses delicate, heavy, and persistent electronic brilliance.

Mo(u)rning Lazarus:
“Mo(u)rning Lazarus” unfolds with unadulterated, raw energy, bringing in a grunge-infused heavy rock sound. An atmosphere of melodic dissonance is created by the opening’s jagged and distorted guitar riffs. The drums then enter with a palpable sense of urgency, and the basslines bounce with furious explosive energy. These instrumental backgrounds work together to produce an intense soundscape with gritty textures and grungy momentum.
The raw, unadulterated passion of the vocals in this track is just as powerful as the instrumental. The vocals have an intense cohesiveness, and when combined with the faint background vocals, their complexity greatly increases, particularly with the rich harmonies they produce in the background. One of the track’s distinctive features is its gritty, searing texture. This ferocious tempest of layered hard-rock grunge music is produced by the flawless fusion of vocals and instrumentation.

Somnorine is a dream-forged journey through consciousness, emotion, and existential reflection, blending experimental sound, vulnerability, and immersive artistry.

Discover Skylarka’s artistic brilliance with her album “Somnorine.” Even after the last notes fade into silence, allow each track to transport you to unexplored sonic realms where you experience the essence of human existence, broaden the view of both the conscious and subconscious, and gain insight about the complexities of dream, anxiety, and reality in general.
