In the new country/jazz love song, “She’s Not The Hurting Kind,” Anton Commissaris highlights the value of trust in a relationship.
Anton Commissaris is a composer, pianist, and vocalist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He likes all kinds of music, but jazz has a special place in his heart that he developed at a young age. Some of jazz music’s greatest composers have influenced him, including Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, and Antonio Carlos-Jobim.
Anton Commissaris was inspired to try his hand at music composition by the amazing music of Lennon McCartney, and he hasn’t looked back since. Anton Commissaris was also inspired to try his hand at some rolling country storytelling while stuck at home during the pandemic, having previously teased us with mostly jazz, blues, and Latin tunes. Anton Commissaris was talking with his partner, who said something he didn’t quite understand, to which he responded ironically, “I’m just a simple man trying to understand…” He immediately heard an accompanying melody in his head, and the song “She’s Not The Hurting Kind” came to mind.
Anton Commissaris‘s male vocal influences include Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Donny Hathaway. Among his favorite female vocalists are Sarah Vaughan, Etta James, and Ms. Lauryn Hill. Anton released his debut EP, “On A Bright Note,” in early 2021. In late 2021, Anton also released his debut single “Lonely Bay” and his sophomore EP “Out of the Blue.” The “Awakening Sounds” EP was Anton’s first 2022 release, and it expanded on his jazz foundations with notes of soul, R&B, and Afro-Cuban rhythms.
Anton released his brand-new song, “She’s Not the Hurting Kind,” on November 18, 2022. The song’s strong country-jazz grooves and harmonies invite listeners to consider the challenges of starting a new relationship while still carrying the emotional scars of a previous one.
“She’s Not the Hurting Kind” is a song about a singer who is falling in love again but is afraid of reliving his previous love’s pain. In a previous relationship, the singer was severely burned by another woman and still bears the scars. To reap the benefits of this new love, the singer must overcome his fear of failure. Finally, there is no rhyme or reason for this; it comes down to trust in oneself and the other person’s commitment to the relationship, as well as their capacity for cruelty or kindness. The singer eventually overcomes his confusion and apprehension and decides that this new lady is kind and loving and that he should risk a new relationship or regret what could have been.
“She’s Not The Hurting Kind” essentially investigates the bravery required to accept a new love while overcoming the fear of future pain caused by a breakup. Because trust cannot be anticipated or justified; it must simply be felt, the song emphasizes the importance of trust in a relationship. Fans of Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, and Norah Jones will enjoy this timeless, feel-good contemporary take on a classic country storyline and jazz melodies. With his warm, hospitable, and lilting vocals, Anton sings about his new romance and his hopes and fears for future happiness, peace of mind, and love in this song.
Rich female backing vocals blend and echo with Anton on “She’s Not The Hurting Kind,” as do riveting, rolling piano, and violin solos. The song combines Anton’s love of country music storytelling charm with feel-good jazz swing rhythms, creating a harmonious blend of spring and summer sounds that awaken the mind and nourish the soul.
