“THE CHOICE”, released on March 29, 2026, confirms Chris Oledude as a bold innovator in folk-based music with a contemporary twist. From the first note, the haunting melody of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” sets a reflective, almost ethereal tone that immediately draws the listener into moral and environmental contemplation. Oledude’s voice is both commanding and intimate, flowing with a natural ease that enhances the song’s reflective depth. The lines, “The choice! Our choice! To heaven or through hell…,” resonate with gravitas, while the spoken interlude, “I love you, oh! I hate you so!”, punctuates human conflict and vulnerability. Backing vocals from ten family members and friends create a warm harmonic layer, amplifying the communal aspect and giving each lyric a richer emotional weight. Here, the song’s message of conscious choices and collective responsibility becomes impossible to ignore.

Lyrically, “THE CHOICE” traverses both personal and societal terrain with fluidity. Oledude moves from intimate human relationships, “…Behold two people who will share a life… choose the sweeter life,” to larger social questions, “…Can we shed ancient ideologies? …Be better or be cursed.” Environmental stewardship emerges in, “…Our Mother Earth in so much pain… fight for our future’s days!”, reflecting the artist’s personal experiences along the Hudson River and the influence of Pete Seeger’s activism. Each lyric is delivered with phrasing that mirrors natural speech and reflection, creating an immediacy that draws the listener into ethical deliberation. The combination of introspective verses, refrains, and the tension-filled spoken interlude gives the song a narrative unpredictability, emphasizing that human choice is never simple or one-dimensional.

Musically, “THE CHOICE” is a sophisticated blend of folk-rock and pop sensibilities. Zachary Staples’ guitar work moves seamlessly between melodic strumming and subtle rhythmic accents, while the recorder adds a haunting, almost mystical layer that echoes traditional folk music. Pop-infused textures emerge through rhythmic dynamics and harmonic layering, giving the track a broader accessibility without diluting its reflective depth. The ensemble vocals enhance choruses, creating moments of lift and resonance that feel simultaneously communal and cinematic. Oledude’s vocal lines interact fluidly with the instrumentation, sometimes holding to folk restraint, other times embracing the melodic hooks typical of pop, making the song unpredictable yet cohesive. Minimalist production by Mark Dann and Kat Lewis prioritizes clarity, ensuring every guitar strum, recorder flourish, and vocal nuance remains audible and emotionally compelling.

Production-wise, “THE CHOICE” is a study in balance, blending acoustic warmth with precise sonic polish. The sparse layering allows Oledude’s lead vocals to dominate, while subtle reverb and panning create depth across both solo and ensemble passages. Bridges and refrains introduce melodic and harmonic variation that heighten tension and release, further enhanced by the folk-rock-pop hybrid instrumentation. The track’s rhythm, intentionally conversational and reflective, aligns perfectly with lyrical phrasing, giving the song an organic flow. Ultimately, “THE CHOICE” transcends conventional songwriting, using instrumentation, vocal layering, and production to amplify its moral and environmental messages, leaving the listener with a profound sense that “the choice” affects both individual destiny and collective human responsibility.
In THE CHOICE, Chris Oledude Reminds Us That Every Decision Shapes Our World, Urging Reflection, Conscience, And Care For Both Humanity And The Earth We Share.
