From Bloomington, Indiana, Twice Dark arises as a haunting presence in the darkwave and industrial music scene. Established in 2020 by Josh Kreuzman, this project encapsulates the haunting beauty found in desolate industrial sites and forgotten stories, resulting in a poignant soundscape. Taking inspiration from a wide array of genres including goth, industrial, EBM, italodisco, deathrock, coldwave, and darkwave, Twice Dark creates music that resonates like a memory from a distant era.
Kreuzman’s artistic path began long before the inception of Twice Dark. Armed with a BFA in Sculpture and a Minor in Art History from Indiana University Bloomington, his artistic endeavors transcend music and into visual arts, influencing his distinctive sonic identity. His musical foundation traces back to the early ’90s punk era, evolving through indie rock and ultimately finding its home in the shadowy electronic realm of Twice Dark. In 2022, he assembled the Midwest Gothic compilation, showcasing the rich dark music culture of the region. As the 2025 release of ‘Telekinetic’ approaches, Twice Dark is set to further establish its presence in the expansive gothic electronic music scene.

“Necromantic,” unveiled on January 31st, 2025, is the fourth single from the eagerly awaited album ‘Telekinetic’ by Twice Dark. This track offers an immersive descent into the realms of goth and electro-industrial, serving as a song that not only throbs with dark vitality but also conveys a haunting narrative of the irresistible lure of the underworld. Featuring guest vocals from Scott Harris of Hororhaus, “Necromantic” emerges as an anthem soaked in grief, merging eerie soundscapes with an alluring dancefloor beat. Recorded at Postal Recording in Indianapolis in April 2024, the process ensures that every component resonates with both haunting sorrow and invigorating force.
From the opening of “Necromantic,” a chilling yet invigorating ambiance is set. The track begins with a foreboding ambient synth drone, establishing a stage for an ethereal venture. The sound reverberates deeply, resembling echoes from a crypt, while faint, reverb-drenched whispers linger in the background, cultivating an eerie atmosphere. Even before the percussion makes its entrance, the song captures the listener’s attention, drawing them into its nocturnal realm. Then, a deep, resonant bassline surfaces, pulsing like a revived heartbeat from beyond. This bass, dense and ominous, provides the base for what comes next, making the song not merely something to be heard, but experienced physically.
The drum programming introduces a consistent, mechanical rhythm that instantly compels movement. The percussion stands out crisp and relentless, offering a structured counterpoint to the track’s unsettling, drifting synths. This thoughtful rhythm application guarantees that “Necromantic” functions as both an atmospheric work and a potent dance track, ideal for shadowy goth clubs where silhouettes sway under flickering lights. The percussion’s interplay with the bassline fosters a rhythmic flow that feels foreboding yet exhilarating, as if guiding the listener into a trance-like state.
The Instrumental elements in “Necromantic” demonstrate a skillful gothic electronic composition. The production possesses an undeniable cinematic flair, with each sound meticulously arranged to amplify the song’s spectral vibe. Throughout the track, additional layers of synth textures unfold, creating a dynamic musical experience. This careful layering enriches the composition, guaranteeing that each listening reveals fresh sonic intricacies hidden below the surface.
Vocally, “Necromantic” showcases an impressive range of emotion and ambiance. There is a sensitivity in the delivery, as though the singer is not merely narrating a story of the deceased but truly engaging with them. Scott Harris’s guest vocals introduce a level of intensity, his voice creating a sharp contrast that amplifies the song’s haunting duality. Instead of overpowering the blend, the vocals are intricately integrated into the instrumentation, acting as an additional instrument in the spectral ensemble that is “Necromantic”. The song narrates the tale of a man enticed into the underworld by a spectral figure in a cemetery at midnight, a storyline that seamlessly matches the gothic and supernatural motifs that characterize Twice Dark.

Even with its sorrowful themes, “Necromantic” is certainly suitable for dancing. The rhythmic, entrancing tempo and pulsing bass create an ideal song for the goth and industrial club environment, where dance and feeling merge beneath illuminated sound cathedrals. The difference between the song’s ethereal vibe and its intense rhythm generates a strong push-and-pull dynamic, rendering it irresistible. Whether felt in the solitude of personal reflections or surrounded by a throng immersed in the melody, the song possesses an undeniable attraction, almost as if it exudes its own gravitational pull. It is a song that requires not just to be listened to but to be sensed, to be experienced with every sense completely involved.
In essence, through “Necromantic,” Twice Dark has created a track that captures the spirit of gothic electronic music while expanding its limits. It is a song that honors its inspirations while remaining rooted in the now, a track that seems both timeless and immediate. The captivating tunes, the throbbing beats, the ethereal voices, all merge to form an auditory experience that is both mesmerizing and profoundly moving. “Necromantic” is a track that requires to be sensed, a track that remains like a reverberation in the gloom. It is not just music; it is an enchantment, a summons, a connection between the worlds of the living and the deceased.
