Rhythmic Euphoria: James Clav’s “Give It To Me” Electrifies The Dance Floor

James Clav

James Clav broke from his native Athlone, Ireland, to hit the shores of electronic music not the normal way. His childhood fascination with music and classic rock beats and traditional Irish vibes coupled with early electronics would impart much to Clav early. However, it was only in his late teens that he actually started listening to the kind of music he would later define: house music.

Imbibing the works of people he now sees as pioneers of the game such as Daft Punk and Carl Cox, James Clav now feels he has those ideals to bear and wants to mix them something along the lines of raw energy, very much the dance music way, mixed with the advances of contemporary electronic sounds. Self-exploration has comprised imagination drained from creating beats in his bedroom to sole gigs in local spaces-even within that imaginary portion of things-as his life. Suffice to say, it did not take much time for him to develop music with catchy beats and synths around a special art of infusing old with new. Richard Clav soon became far known in an electronic world as all his music started flooding the short distances. Thus, his music is not just to be heard but also felt by listeners who are invoked to be part of something bigger. James Clav always stretched the limits of electronic music with every new release, developing or perfecting his sound.

James Clav’s fiery entry into the electronic genre comes in the latest track “Give It To Me,” which is the hottest thing going on in the industry in the making since its launch on August 8 of this year. “Give It To Me” is the electrifying house number showing Clav’s usual very keen sense for catchy beats and brilliant synthesizers, and it’s a sure-fire favorite for dance halls and playlists. Any aficionado of feverishly produced, high-octane electronic music must make it their business to hear such a song “Give It To Me,” Clav’s most innovative way of thinking through music. I was quite aware that this was yet again to be a very exciting journey when I pressed the play button on the James Clav “Give It To Me.” But it wasn’t nearly what I was prepared for, the astoundingly energy that would later pour from my speakers, and I would eventually be blown away by the very place where melody and rhythm fuse most contagiously in the very first beating.

It is quite clear that a production like “Give It To Me” is very much excellent, but a perfect lesson on how clapping different sections of the song around is by Clav. The veritable introduction- roaring electric currents of pulsating EDM-inspired drums and syncopated percussion, throwing a challenge about what is expected there afterward. I was swept along with the evolving soundscapes and curves in time, slowly adding synths as they hinted at a more otherworldly EDM groove-it’s genius. On the one-minute mark that the song hits, I was already on tiptoe for the next switch. As soon as the switch happens, the pulsing basslines and eerie synths establish the house-music heart of the track that is sweet, yet drivingly intense thumping thumps.

It could easily be considered to have among the better parts of the song-the hook that is sung as “Give It To Me”; very simple, very repetitive, and yet, mostly-powerful. The more the listening continues, the fainter female vocal that repeats “Give it to me” attains new depth and becomes a soothing assignment with the ultra-fast pace of the instrumental. This soft feminine voice is smooth, clear, cuts like a whisper, apart from all the energetic beats. The calmness of the vocals, as opposed to the driving force of the rhythm, is what makes it so enticing. It’s as though Clav knew just what it needed to go from good to great.

This is also what I find interesting because, in addition to the obvious picture of keeping the attention of the listener from beginning to end, I find that this piece is interesting insofar as it maintains a flow that keeps on changing without ever losing its character or overwhelming the listener. Perfect interplay between instruments yields a very lively-sounding ever-moving soundscape.
