Mark Docherty’s song “Pay My Debt” is about the emotional and financial pressure of living in a debt-ridden society. It’s a rallying cry against the anguish created by the expense of just getting by in life.

Mark Docherty, a musician who has been writing songs since he was 11 years old and was born in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria, draws inspiration from David Bowie, Jack White, and Prince. He fuses these various influences to produce his own special sound.

Mark Docherty has led London-based bands ranging from party-rock pioneers Team New Band (like Talking Heads and Pixies on steroids) to the dark, Dead Weather-inspired Hari Debi since studying songwriting at the Brighton Institute of Contemporary Music. This has resulted in BBC Introducing support as well as Archie’s Stage headlining at the YNOT festival.

After relocating to Liverpool, Mark Docherty will be releasing his debut solo album, “Reckless Abandon,” in mid-2023. It was a labor of love and an interesting task to play all the instruments, produce, and record the 12 songs. Also, his winning debut single, “Saying Goodbye,” has been praised for being sensational in every way.

Mark Docherty’s second single, “Pay My Debt,” will be released on March 20th, 2023. Lyrically, this song reflects the debt-ridden society we live in, as well as the emotional strain this places on all of us. “Pay My Debt” is a rallying cry against the distress caused by the cost of simply getting by in life. The startling 5/4 beat, pulp fiction-inspired guitar riffs, and catchy vocals build to a relentless crescendo, expressing the feeling of never being totally relaxed as the next crisis and wave of fear are just around the corner.

The first note of “Pay My Debt” immediately draws your attention to its fast-paced, high-energy nature. Strong bass and quick percussion set the mood for an exciting ride right away as the song begins. Before Mark Docherty’s strong vocals begin, the bass guitar takes the lead, delivering a performance that is both passionate and unpolished. The song’s lyrics center on the idea of debt and what it’s like to feel stuck in a cycle of borrowing. Mark sings, “Seems like I will never pay my debt,” conveying a sense of hopelessness and desperation that is all too relatable. The song’s upbeat tempo and catchy melody make it impossible to resist dancing along, despite the serious subject matter.

Mark Docherty’s outstanding vocal performance is one of the song’s standout elements. The listener can feel the emotion behind the lyrics thanks to the raw intensity with which he delivers them. Mark sings the line “I’ll never pay my debt” in a way that is both cathartic and captivating in the chorus, which is particularly potent.

All things considered, “Pay My Debt” is a superb illustration of garage rock done right. Mark delivers an excellent vocal performance, and the song’s lyrics and production are both excellent. This song should be added to your playlist if you enjoy fast-paced rock music that makes your heart race and your feet move.
