Daniel: How would you describe the identity and sound of 23 Fields, and how does the blend of folk, rock, and Americana shape your storytelling approach?
23 Fields: That’s a question I struggle with all the time, I write songs and throw some chords at them, I’ve never tried to be in any particular genre, it’s just us!
Daniel: What does the name 23 Fields represent for you, and how does it reflect your artistic vision and emotional direction as a band?
23 Fields: I was 23 when I first ever recorded anything and it was in a converted stable. I walked out and could just see fields, so there came the name. I don’t think the name bares any influence on the music… I maybe wrong though!
Daniel: With the release of “I’ll See You Soon,” how does this single represent where you currently are in your musical and personal journey?
23 Fields: Each single and album I’m like, yep proud of this one, it’s better than the last, but for ‘I’ll see you soon’ it is! It came out of nowhere and came together really well
Daniel: What was the core emotional inspiration behind “I’ll See You Soon,” especially the theme of guilt surrounding not visiting elderly parents as often as intended?
23 Fields: My parents live a fair way away and with work and family life I struggle to get over to see them, they’re in their late 70’s now so I do feel guilty about it, after all they wiped my but and put up with me for my first 18 years!
Daniel: The phrase “I’ll see you soon” carries both hope and regret in the song, how did you use that idea to shape the emotional weight of the track?
23 Fields: Erm….. I have no idea sorry! It just kinda happened
Daniel: How did you balance tenderness and vulnerability in the lyrics to ensure the message felt honest without becoming overwhelming for the listener?
23 Fields: Blimey, you analyse things well! I didn’t have the listener in mind when I wrote it (sorry listeners!)
Daniel: The song reflects on time slipping away, what message did you want listeners to take from that realization?
23 Fields: Just go and visit loved ones, make time
Daniel: Do you hope “I’ll See You Soon” encourages listeners to reconnect with loved ones more actively, and how important was that intention in the writing process?
23 Fields: Definitely, it was the aim of the track when I wrote it though
Daniel: Can you walk through the songwriting process for “I’ll See You Soon,” and how the emotional concept translated into structure and arrangement?
23 Fields: I scribbled some words down and found 3 chords I liked, played it live to the others and they sprinkled their magic!
Daniel: How did the instrumentation choices in the track help support its emotional storytelling and Americana-inspired tone?
23 Fields: Again, I can’t really answer that, we’re just 3 people who love playing together!
Daniel: What role did vocal delivery and production decisions play in capturing the intimacy of the song’s message?
23 Fields: I was bullied by the producer in changing a couple of bits, but nothing too drastic
Daniel: This release feels deeply personal, how has your artistic growth shaped the way you now approach writing emotionally heavy material?
23 Fields: I’d say 90% of our songs are personal, it’s all about life experience
Daniel: How has your personal relationship with family influenced the themes explored in your music, particularly in this single?
23 Fields: They’ve had a massive impact from ‘Dear Family’ and ‘Growing Old’ off our first album, they’ve always been there and this is a way of me saying thanks, sorry I don’t visit more often, but I nam thinking of you
Daniel: In what ways do you feel you’ve evolved as a songwriter since your earlier work?
23 Fields: I’ve grown in confidence so musically and vocally I’m more experimental now
Daniel: You’ve described this return as a renewed passion, what challenges and breakthroughs defined your creative journey leading up to this release?
23 Fields: I only dabbled in recording and focussed my career in nursing (which I still do), but now I spend my spare time doing what I love (in between family jobs) – songwriting
Daniel: How has the audience responded to the emotional honesty of “I’ll See You Soon,” especially listeners who relate to its message?
23 Fields: When we’ve played it live there’s always been a great response and questions after
Daniel: Have any fan reactions or personal stories stood out to you since sharing the song with the public?
23 Fields: Not as such
Daniel: What direction do you see 23 Fields moving in next, and are there upcoming projects that continue this emotional narrative style?
23 Fields: We’ve got two further singles due out this year and are currently back in the studio recording more
Daniel: What future plans do you have for releases or performances, and how do you intend to expand the message introduced in “I’ll See You Soon”?
23 Fields: Carry on doing what were doing, playing live, releasing tracks and hopefully continue to have our fans listen.

As the performance gradually unfolds, I could hear the voice evolve from quiet resignation into reassuring determination, making lines like “Now I’ll take you with me every mile I drive away from home” land with remarkable emotional impact, transforming distance into an enduring expression of love rather than loss. The songwriting deserves equal praise for confronting the painful reality that time is never guaranteed, encouraging listeners to stop postponing the conversations, visits, and embraces that truly matter. Musically, the warm acoustic guitar, delicate percussion, and subtle atmospheric textures create an intimate folk-pop landscape that allows the storytelling to remain at the forefront while giving the song a polished yet organic quality. Every production decision feels intentional, enhancing the reflective mood without overshadowing the emotional honesty at its core. By the final note, I wasn’t simply impressed by the craftsmanship of the composition, I found myself reflecting on my own relationships and the importance of making time for the people who shape our lives.
