Hi everyone, it’s your host Faithfulness, and today I have with me Garrett Anthony Rice from Greystones, County Wicklow, Ireland. Garrett Anthony Rice is here to share more light about his musical journey while diving into his latest single, “Try To Make It Right (our end game),” released on 22nd June 2026. The poignant new release explores the emotional realities of divorce and the devastating impact it can have on children and family relationships. In Garrett’s words, the song tells the story of “a young married couple who decide to divorce but realise they have to work together to protect their relationship with their children for the future.” At a time when divorce is becoming increasingly common across Ireland and the UK, the single’s message feels both timely and deeply significant. What does it mean for Garrett Anthony Rice to release such a thought provoking record? Are listeners being encouraged to reflect on the importance of preserving family bonds even when relationships reach their end? Let’s find out.

Welcome, Garrett Anthony Rice. Before we begin our interview, here is what you need to know about this talented artist. Hailing from County Dublin and now living in Greystones, County Wicklow, with his family for the last twenty years, Garrett Anthony Rice is an emerging singer songwriter whose emotionally resonant music draws inspiration from the dramatic flair of Elton John, the realism of Neil Young, the innovative instrumentation of David Bowie, and the intimate vocal delivery of Jeff Buckley. Garrett released his debut album under the alias CONSULT in October 2023, entitled “Reflections Part II, the very best of……,” which was streamed in 93 countries and captured the attention of renowned producer Chris Potter, known for his work with The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2, and Richard Ashcroft. Garrett now returns with an ambitious new chapter.
Garrett Anthony Rice wrote “Try To Make It Right (our end game)” as a realistic and heartfelt reflection on a growing social issue affecting families across Ireland and the UK. Recorded across Kore Studios in London, Chris Potter’s home studio in Bournemouth, and Darklands Studio in Dublin, the single brought together an exceptional team of musicians, including Geoff Dugmore, Adam Phillips, Chris Webb, and Tim Wills. The recording process also featured a unique moment when the gospel choir parts were captured with Chris Potter directing via Zoom, the first time the acclaimed producer had worked in this way during his distinguished career. Garrett Anthony Rice is a storyteller whose music confronts life’s most difficult realities, and he continues his journey with one simple but powerful mantra, “Never give up!!!”
Having this brief Introduction, I’m sure new and current fans must be excited about our Interview today.
INTERVIEW
Faithfulness: Growing up in County Dublin and spending the last two decades in Greystones, how have those places shaped your perspective both as a person and as a songwriter?
Garrett Anthony Rice: I have 3 kids with my wife so in terms of living life to date it’s been full of the normal ups and downs of family life but it also has given me a perspective on focussing on the simple things in life first and learning to deal with crisis when it happens.
Faithfulness: Your music draws inspiration from artists as diverse as Elton John, Neil Young, David Bowie, and Jeff Buckley. What qualities from each of those legends have had the biggest influence on your own artistic identity?
Garrett Anthony Rice: The need to be different and write from the soul as opposed to chasing success to fit in with whatever trend is of the day. Bowie spent 10 years of his early career writing formulaic songs only to realise with Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust that new and experimental music will eventually connect with people if it’s good enough.
Faithfulness: Releasing a debut album that reached listeners in 93 countries is an incredible achievement. What did that experience teach you about the universal power of music and storytelling?
Garrett Anthony Rice: I always have known the power of music but to write songs with relevance and themes is extremely difficult so I am very grateful for the people who get what I do.
Faithfulness: EQUINOX is an ambitious double album with eighteen songs, a project that demanded a tremendous amount of writing and creative commitment. What kept you motivated throughout such a massive undertaking?
Garrett Anthony Rice: Because I was working with such high level people (Chris Potter produced The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney) and the fact they were so incredible at what they do I didn’t need to feel motivated because every session was an adventure for me and to see what you have written in a bedroom on your own being played and interpreted by these genius musicians was motivation enough.
Faithfulness: Your personal mantra is “Never give up!!!” Looking back on your journey so far, was there a particular moment when that mindset became especially important to your career?
Garrett Anthony Rice: I have that feeling even now from time to time, but I have come so far on this journey with top level people around me who believe in me so I count everything as a blessing and a bonus.
Faithfulness: “Try To Make It Right (our end game)” tackles the sensitive subject of divorce through the eyes of a family trying to protect their children. What first inspired you to tell this story, and why did you feel now was the right time to share it?
Garrett Anthony Rice: I think divorce is a reality for couples of all ages nowadays however, I think younger couples have more likelihood of splitting up. On my next record “AMERICANNA Vol.1” I have a song called “Parallel Lines (it’s all your fault)” which is about a divorce where one of the parties is having an affair so the commutations are complex in this area.
Faithfulness: One of the song’s most powerful elements is its realism. How did you approach writing about such an emotional topic while ensuring the story remained authentic and balanced for all the people involved?
Garrett Anthony Rice: it’s a gift I have to create themes through my lyrics and the closing monologue just spilled out of me (the original handwritten lyrics are on my IG feed @garrettanthonyrice), also life experience of other people’s troubles gives you material to work with.

Faithfulness: Rather than focusing solely on conflict, the song ultimately highlights cooperation and responsibility. What message do you hope parents facing difficult family situations take away from the track?
Garrett Anthony Rice: I think when kids are involved it is inevitable that complications arise between married couples and unfortunately they become tangled up in the bitterness with custody hearings in Court etc so I am just suggesting they think of the effect on their children before drawing battle lines.
Faithfulness: The recording process spanned London, Bournemouth, and Dublin. How did working across multiple locations influence the atmosphere and final sound of the record?
Garrett Anthony Rice: Not much because it was the people working with me in those studios that made it sound special.
Faithfulness: The gospel choir sessions were recorded with Chris Potter directing remotely via Zoom, something he had never done before. What was that experience like, and how did it contribute to the emotional weight of the finished song?
Garrett Anthony Rice: Chris was amazed by not only the vocal delivery of the girls of the African Dublin gospel choir but also their ability to interpret the vocal line, where it should go and how they could add to the feeling of the song. I had worked with them on my debut record in 2023 but for Chris (who has worked with gospel choirs all over the world) it was a breathtaking experience.
Faithfulness: You assembled an outstanding team of musicians for this release. Was there a particular moment in the studio when you felt the song transform from an idea into something truly special?
Garrett Anthony Rice: Yes. The drums in the middle eight are heavily compressed with Geoff Dugmore interpreting how the whole section should sound given it is the husband launching a tirade against his wife.
Faithfulness: Divorce and its impact on children is an issue affecting many families today. Have early listeners shared any reactions or personal stories that reinforced the importance of this song’s message?
Garrett Anthony Rice: it has got a very strong high level preview response and came in at Number 16 on the GROOVER website charts so I am very hopeful this single will be a big release for me.
Faithfulness: With EQUINOX on the horizon and a growing catalogue of acclaimed releases behind you, what excites you most about this next chapter of your musical journey?
Garrett Anthony Rice: Playing live to thousands of people and seeing them really connecting with the songs and hopefully singing them back to me at the top of their lungs!
Faithfulness: Finally, if listeners could walk away from “Try To Make It Right (our end game)” remembering just one lesson or feeling, what would you hope stays with them long after the song ends?
Life is not easy all the time but we all know right from wrong so make choices for you and other dependants with that in mind.

HAVING LISTENED TO ‘Try To Make It Right (our end game)’, HERE ARE MY HONEST THOUGHTS
Garrett Anthony Rice’s “Try To Make It Right (our end game)” thrives on understated musicality, proving that emotional depth often emerges from simplicity. The song is built upon warm, resonant acoustic guitar lines that establish a reflective and intimate atmosphere, while its gradual development allows every instrumental layer to feel purposeful. Chris Potter’s production remains refreshingly organic, preserving the natural textures of the performance and avoiding unnecessary embellishment. Geoff Dugmore’s restrained drumming adds subtle rhythmic movement, while Adam Phillips’ tasteful electric guitar phrases introduce gentle colour and melodic lift. Beneath it all, Chris Webb’s bass provides a steady foundation, and Tim Wills’ atmospheric keys enrich the arrangement with warmth and dimension. At the centre is Rice’s captivating vocal performance, delivered with sincerity, measured intensity, and remarkable vulnerability. The uplifting gospel choir provides a striking contrast to the introspective verses, bringing a powerful sense of release and completing an elegantly crafted and emotionally resonant musical experience.
