Exclusive Interview With LESS – Hellya!

LESS – HELLYA!
LESS – HELLYA!

Hello everyone, it’s your host Faithfulness, and today I have with me LESS from Florence, Italy. LESS is here to share more about her musical journey while diving into her explosive new single, “Hellya!”, released on January 16, 2026. Described as a raw, rock-infused outburst born from a moment of deep apathy and creative frustration, “Hellya!” marks a bold and definitive direction in her artistry. With its unapologetic mood and intense energy, the single captures the urge to break free from constraints and reclaim music as pure expression, a statement of authenticity that immediately grabs the listener.

LESS – HELLYA!

Before we begin our interview, here is what you need to know about this compelling artist. Born in Naples on January 16, 2001, and raised in Arzano, LESS grew up in a loving but constantly changing environment, shaped by resilience and adaptation as the daughter of two leather workers. Her life shifted at age eight when her family moved to Fano, and again at eleven when another relocation to Scandicci and the loss of her grandmother deeply affected her childhood. Through these experiences, music became her anchor, helping her navigate identity, change, and personal challenges.

During adolescence, LESS discovered the guitar and singing, which became her tools for self-expression. Songwriting began almost playfully but quickly evolved into a lifeline. Songs like “Why Do You Lie?” and “Hole” transformed personal struggles into art, while the pandemic gave her space to develop her sound in a home studio. Collaborating with producers Lorenzo Santi and Federico Maremmi at Kapow Vintage Studio in Florence, LESS refined her vision and embraced a more rock-driven energy. With “Hellya!”, she channels frustration, liberation, and emotional intensity into a track that announces her arrival as a bold, multifaceted artist ready to share her music with Europe and beyond.

Having this brief Introduction, I’m sure new and current fans must be excited about our Interview today.

INTERVIEW

Faithfulness: You grew up moving between places, learning early that stability could be emotional rather than geographical. How did that constant adaptation shape the way you listen to yourself now as an artist?

LESS: It’s all part of how life takes shape. Even now that I’m more stable geographically, my emotions fly, migrate, return, and change. I take it as a constant evolution.

Faithfulness: Being the daughter of two leather workers, you’ve spoken about learning resilience through observation rather than instruction. Where do you still see that craftsmanship ethic showing up in your songwriting?

LESS: Well, definitely my constant commitment to improving my skills and my singing style, to understanding new ways of translating emotions into music and creating songs with the right mood. After all, the work we do in the studio is very much a craft.

Faithfulness: Music became a shelter for you during moments of family misunderstanding around identity. At this stage of your life, does music still function as protection, or has it become something riskier?

LESS: Music remains a refuge where I can express myself freely, always moving forward with better means of expression. The only risk I see is the disappointment of not being able to reach the audience I would like to share my emotions with.

Faithfulness: Was there ever a moment when collaborating with your producers felt uncertain or risky, and what helped you trust the process?

LESS: Absolutely yes. There have been and will continue to be misunderstandings and differing views, but through dialogue we have always managed to find the good in every different opinion. The desire to progress is always the main driving force. And then we really love each other.

Faithfulness: You’ve said “Hellya” emerged from apathy rather than heartbreak. Can you describe what emotional numbness felt like before it exploded into this track?

LESS: It was a very dark period, which I described very intensely in the song. During that time, the work of my producers was very important. Even though they too have their dark moments, like everyone else in the world, I believe, they always supported me and encouraged me to express every little feeling. That’s how “Hellya” came about: I sang the melody and lyrics to my producer (Federico Maremmi) with all the anger I had, and he immediately translated everything into that song, with that raw rock mood that I now feel is truly mine.

LESS – HELLYA!

Faithfulness: You’ve described yourself as part child and part mature woman, do you feel “Hellya!” reveals one side more than the other, or is it the tension between both that defines this release?

LESS: In “Hellya,” the tension between Less as a girl and Less as a woman is the source of the anger you can hear in her outburst. I believe that the desire to hold on to a certain way of always being a teenager (and my producers agree, even though they are over 50, they are still kids inside, and sometimes even outside) is something that should not be stifled, but rather supported and encouraged. You only live once.

Faithfulness: The pandemic forced you inward, technically and emotionally, through building a home studio. How did isolation change your relationship with control over your sound?

LESS: It was a way to understand and learn how to translate my lyrics and melodies into music. It was a window of opportunity that was then definitively opened by working in the studio with Federico and Lorenzo. Their experience and the fact that they have worked with international artist made me understand the technical ways to describe a peculiar emotion in one single chord. A magic

Faithfulness: What sparked the choice of “Hellya!” as the title, given that it feels more like an emotional outburst than a defined word?

LESS: Tuscany is the perfect place in the world to create neologisms. People do it every day, often cursing about any little thing or even randomly. It’s an exclamation of release that came about this way, naturally

Faithfulness: There’s a recurring tension in the song between wanting escape and feeling bound. Was that sense of captivity rooted more in relationships, geography, or artistic expectation?

LESS: Mainly it’s a tension that I experience in relationships, but you could also see it in music and in life in general. Certainly in music it’s a sense of powerlessness in the face of the modern music biz, which I don’t like at all.

Faithfulness: You openly question whether you want to tie your life to one person. How did writing that uncertainty into the song change the way you view commitment itself?

Answer: Well, unfortunately, I find that the more I want stability and a steady relationship, the more unstable and insecure it becomes. Maybe it’s fate, or maybe it’s the curiosity of dealing with new people when they’re really interesting.

Faithfulness: You’ve spoken about frustration with being expected to perform online rather than simply exist as a musician. How directly is “Hellya” addressing that pressure?

LESS: Actually, Hellya doesn’t directly address this aspect, although probably some of the anger comes from there. But I can tell you that in the next single, in an ironic way, I will also address this. Stay connected!

Faithfulness: Sonically, this is your most rock driven release so far. What did aggression allow you to express that vulnerability alone could not?

LESS: It’s the power of music. And as I told you in a previous answer, the fact that I discovered that there are ways to create a harmony that describes an emotion has opened up enormous horizons for me, into which I immediately dived.

Faithfulness: You’ve called this track the definitive style through which you want your music to be heard. What internal line did “Hellya” cross that makes it irreversible for you?

LESS: That’s exactly what I was saying before. Having translated the anger so well has given me the musical language with which I would like to express myself from now on. In particular, I must tell you, the chord progression in the finale is particularly intense and illuminating.

Faithfulness: When you imagine carrying this energy across Europe and beyond, what do you hope listeners recognize in themselves when they hear that exclamation burst out?

LESS: Meanwhile, I hope I can let you hear it, and as you know it’s not easy doing everything independently. In general, I think that sharing your weaknesses and emotions openly with the public means saying to everyone “Here I am, this is me! Did I move you?” That would be the greatest satisfaction.

Faithfulness: After everything this song has unlocked and unsettled in you, who do you feel you are becoming as an artist right now, before the next chapter has even formed?

LESS: I think my path should be to always improve, study, understand, immerse myself in forms of expression, and always find new ones. And I’m doing just that, thanks also to the infinite patience of my producers, who have to put up with me.
