Jude Austin, O’s “Find Me at Home” is a deeply personal pop alternative blues composition that transforms a painful chapter of self discovery into an intimate statement of identity, belonging, and inner freedom. Released on 26 February 2026, the Sydney based artist’s first major release carries a dark undertone beneath its delicate musical surface, creating a striking contrast between vulnerability and strength. Written by Jude Austin, O and Anthony Snape, with both artists contributing vocals, the song does not simply tell a story about transition. It captures the emotional weight of confronting people and structures that refuse to recognize the person one knows themselves to be.

The origins of “Find Me at Home” give the song its extraordinary emotional foundation. Jude wrote the piece in 2021, only two weeks into his male transition, following an intensely negative encounter with a relative he had come out to. In a single songwriting session, he shared his experience with Anthony Snape, who responded with driving, accordant guitar chords while Jude developed the lyrics and melody. The result was a song completed in under an hour, built around the structures, expectations, and emotional barriers that had made Jude feel trapped. The original vocal recording reflected where he was at that point in his transition, with Anthony providing a strong male lead alongside Jude’s then female vocal. Four years later, after extensive vocal retraining and music production training, Jude returned to the song and self produced it in 2025, giving the composition a new sense of completion.

Musically, “Find Me at Home” balances atmospheric restraint with forward movement. The guitar work creates a delicate but purposeful foundation, while the production allows the arrangement enough breathing room for the emotional narrative to remain central. There is a sense of tension running through the instrumentation, reflecting the conflict between internal truth and external expectations. Rather than overwhelming the listener with excessive layers, the song uses space and controlled intensity to make its emotional moments feel more pronounced. The arrangement moves between vulnerable stillness and stronger swells, mirroring the psychological movement from fear and isolation toward release and self acceptance.

The vocals provide the song’s emotional heartbeat. Jude’s delivery carries the vulnerability of someone questioning where they belong, while the presence of Anthony’s stronger vocal contribution adds another dimension to the performance. Their interplay creates the impression of an internal conversation, reinforcing the song’s themes of identity and transformation. Lines concerning loneliness, walls, and the stories that have held the narrator back establish the emotional conflict, while the recurring “find me at home” refrain becomes the song’s defining statement. It functions simultaneously as a plea, a declaration, and a mantra. The vocal performance becomes particularly powerful because the listener understands that the voice itself represents part of Jude’s journey, having been lost for eight months during his transition before being regained and retrained as a male voice.

The technical development behind the release is equally significant. Jude’s self production reflects years of deliberately building the skills required to shape his music independently. Ben Price’s mixing and Steve Smart’s mastering ensure that the rhythmic movement, guitar textures, vocals, and atmospheric elements remain clear across the song’s four minute runtime. Jude’s musical education includes a Diploma of Music Performance at South Bank TAFE, a Diploma of Music Business at TAFE Ultimo, vocal production studies through Ableton Liveschool, and film scoring studies at the Conservatorium of Sydney. His experience as a performer also extends to sold out original shows and live band performances, giving the emotional directness of “Find Me at Home” a strong performance foundation.

That sense of creative independence connects naturally with the wider story behind Jude Austin, O. As a songwriter, singer, musician, filmmaker, producer, and cinematographer, he has written around 200 songs shaped by experiences of domestic violence, family separation, bullying, and his journey toward his core identity as male. His intention is for those songs to become portals through which other people can process their own experiences. His self produced music video for “White Rivers” has already received an award at the 2026 Las Vegas Music Video Awards, alongside selections and finalist recognition at international film and music festivals. The next major step in this journey arrives on October 10th, 2026, when Jude will launch a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the recording and pressing of his debut album, planned for release in September 2027. With plans to direct his own music videos and continue developing his work across music and film, “Find Me at Home” becomes more than a first major release; it is the opening chapter of a much larger artistic story. It is ultimately a song about finding peace after being told where one belongs, and having the courage to define home from within.
