INTERVIEW
Faithfulness: You have built a unique identity balancing law and music. When did you first realize that both paths could coexist rather than compete?
DJ Cards: It wasn’t until 4 or 5 months ago that I starting composing music. I have loved EDM for a while. In some ways, I never really thought my legal career and owning a law firm would compete or clash with my love of music.
Faithfulness: Growing up with over a decade of drumming experience, how did that foundation shape the way you approach EDM production today?
DJ Cards: It has helped for sure. I still play here and there. The sense of rhythm it has given me has undoubtedly helped me in making EDM tracks- I have a good ear for what makes sense and what doesn’t.
Faithfulness: Your nickname, “The Lawyer Who Drops Beats,” stands out. How do those two worlds influence each other creatively and mentally?
DJ Cards: I think they work hand-in-hand. In other words, my legal work requires discipline and creativity- I have to solve problems constantly as the owner of my firm- whether it’s about the case or an employee. Similarly with music, I need to be disciplined in many regards, but also creative and not get stuck producing the same thing.
Faithfulness: As an internationally featured producer, what moment made you feel that your music was truly reaching beyond your immediate environment?
DJ Cards: It wasn’t too long after I released the first tracks that I got the sense that I could take this far. It wasn’t necessarily the goal at first- more of a diversion from my legal world. But then I realized I had some creativity to give to the world and maybe others would appreciate it. Well, at least some people have! lol
Faithfulness: Your sound blends melodic depth with high-energy intensity. How would you describe the emotional core that drives your music?
DJ Cards: Positivity. Have always been a happy person even thru many of life’s tough curveballs thrown my way. I got lucky having this mindset- it’s hard to get me down!
Faithfulness: “We Rise Up (The Stadium Hype Song)” feels built for massive moments. What was the exact vision in your mind when you started creating this track?
DJ Cards: I’ve always loved college football- even before I went to Boston College. And also love going to Philadelphia Union Soccer games. So I had this idea of how to get a crowd riled up- even for high school football. That was the origination of this track- let’s come up with something to fire up a student body or a team, or a community and get them to rally.
Faithfulness: There is a strong sense of euphoria and uplift in the song. What emotion or message were you most determined to translate into sound?
DJ Cards: I think it was a combination of determination and excitement.
Faithfulness: At what point during production did you realize that this track had the potential to work in stadium or festival settings?
DJ Cards: Really from the start- and not to sound full of myself here- but it was my goal with this track.
Faithfulness: EDM thrives on drops and build-ups. What was the most challenging decision you had to make while structuring this track?
DJ Cards: Whether to start slow or just get right into intensity!
Faithfulness: Your sound carries subtle trance influences. How did you balance that with the mainstream, high-energy festival appeal of this release?
DJ Cards: This is tough to answer- just a feel thing I suppose
Faithfulness: Was there any element, sound, or idea that you almost removed from the track but ultimately decided to keep?
DJ Cards: That was my goal from the outset to be honest. But I was thinking more of a stadium setting than festival at first.
Faithfulness: The title itself feels powerful. What does “We Rise Up (The Stadium Hype Song)” represent to you personally, beyond the music?
DJ Cards: Getting up every day and being determined. In my law practice, I wake up fighting for injured workers, pressing hard to help piece their lives back together. I have a relentless attitude and this song symbolizes that positive mindset.
Faithfulness: How do you imagine listeners experiencing this track differently, whether they are alone with headphones or in a packed crowd?
DJ Cards: Tough question lol. My hope is they feel a sense of solidarity and determinationwhether alone or in a crowd.
Faithfulness: Now that this release is out, what has shifted for you creatively or personally?
DJ Cards: I don’t think much has changed honestly. Just excited to see where it goes. Maybe we hear it during the World Cup?
Faithfulness: Looking ahead, what are you chasing now that “We Rise Up (The Stadium Hype Song)” has set into motion?
DJ Cards: More music to inspire others and/or to make them happy- even if for a few minutes.
