I’m Not Dead EP Track Reviews:

I Hate You:

“I Hate You” by IDKs is a raw, emotionally intense track that explores resentment, heartbreak, and the disillusionment that follows the collapse of a relationship. Built around a minimalist production style, the song creates a haunting and intimate atmosphere that allows its emotional weight to take center stage. The sparse soundscape complements the song’s unfiltered character, drawing attention to the tension between lingering vulnerability and growing indifference. The vocal delivery moves between weary restraint and sharp bursts of intensity, expressing frustration and emotional exhaustion with striking directness. This contrast gives the performance a deeply personal quality, capturing the complicated feelings that emerge when affection gives way to resentment. Lyrically, the track embraces simplicity, allowing its central phrase to communicate the narrator’s feelings without unnecessary embellishment. Its repetitive, loop-driven progression reinforces the sense of being trapped in a recurring emotional struggle. Through its uncompromising expression and haunting atmosphere, “I Hate You” highlights IDKs’ ability to channel difficult emotions into compelling punk rock.

[Am I] Insane?:

“[Am I] Insane?” by IDKs is a brief but explosive musical statement that captures the unsettling experience of questioning reality and perception. Running just under a minute and a half, the track delivers an urgent burst of punk energy, using its abrasive sound and concentrated intensity to reflect its psychological themes. The production creates a claustrophobic atmosphere, with distorted textures, grimy bass synths, and sharp, metallic percussion combining to establish an unpredictable sonic landscape. These elements build a dense wall of sound that feels overwhelming while maintaining an intimate connection with the song’s emotional core. The vocal performance shifts between sharp, rhythmic staccato phrasing and haunting melodic hooks, reinforcing the tension between confusion and awareness. Lyrically, the central question becomes an expression of internal conflict, inviting listeners into an unsettling struggle with personal perception. Despite its compact structure, the track delivers a memorable impact, showcasing IDKs’ willingness to explore experimental textures while preserving the raw intensity and directness that define their punk rock identity.

I’m Not Dead:

“I’m Not Dead” by IDKs is an introspective punk rock track that explores perseverance, resilience, and the determination to survive personal struggles. Built around a minimalist production style, the song creates a haunting atmosphere where space and silence become essential parts of its emotional expression. By keeping the instrumentation restrained, the arrangement allows the central message to remain clear, giving the track an intimate and deeply personal character. The vocal performance carries a weary vulnerability, delivering each phrase with sincerity rather than unnecessary intensity. This restrained approach creates the feeling of a private confession, drawing listeners closer to the emotional experience behind the music. Lyrically, the repeated declaration “I’m not dead” becomes a powerful affirmation of endurance, reflecting an internal battle against personal demons and the desire to reclaim one’s voice. The absence of heavy instrumentation further emphasizes the song’s reflective mood. Through its raw honesty and haunting simplicity, IDKs transforms personal hardship into a compelling statement of survival, offering listeners a resonant reminder of the strength required to keep moving forward.

Formed in Milan during the summer of 2023, IDKs emerged when Edu, Matteo, and Gianluca came together to continue a previous musical project that had reached its conclusion. Their shared vision established the foundation for an essential and aggressive sound driven by energy and immediacy. In 2024, the band began performing across Milan and the surrounding areas, bringing its music directly to audiences within the local independent scene. The lineup evolved into a three-piece in 2025, with Edu moving to bass, as the group continued developing its sound and releasing new material. “Propaganda,” accompanied by an official music video, marked another step in that journey, followed by “Face the Truth” and “Run” in 2026.
