“Powerless”

Darrian Gerard is a Canadian pop-rock performer who creates all of her own music in her home studio, including composition, recording, playing, and production. She was raised in a tiny village in British Columbia, Canada, where she was born. She started playing the guitar at the age of seven and swiftly moved on to the bass, piano, drums, and vocals.

In April 2021, Gerard debuted in the music industry with the release of her debut track, “I Don’t Need Anyone.” Since then, she has produced five further singles, each of which has drawn notice from numerous blogs, radio stations, the worldwide press, and other sources. Her music has been categorized as anthemic pop-rock, with Avril Lavigne, blink-182, Halsey, and Taylor Swift among the artists she draws influence from.

“Powerless” was inspired by Gerard’s inability to sleep, who said, “I really wanted to produce a darker, synth-driven song.” So, in the middle of the night, I opened Logic, created a straightforward rhythm, and then went back to sleep. I sat down and created a song from the perspective of a homeless girl who wouldn’t necessarily have a voice since the phrase “Powerless” kept crossing my mind in the morning. I wrote, produced, and completed the song in a couple of hours. This is the first song I’ve written from someone else’s perspective, so it was interesting to delve into their viewpoint while simultaneously putting my own experiences and feelings into the lyrics.

A homeless girl with no voice and nowhere to go is the subject of the story “Powerless.” She goes aimlessly from town to town, barely remembering the names of the places she stops. If she passes away, will anybody notice? The chorus ponders. Would anybody be interested? Will anybody ever understand her true feelings? The most significant part of this song, in my opinion, is its absence of words.

Each verse in the single “Powerless” has a “bunch of fives” type of punch while also making reference to how infrequently homeless people have a voice, much less are permitted to utilize one in the eyes of society. The track was recorded at Darrian Gerard’s home studio, and she was the only one to work on it. The publication date was November 25, 2022.
