Hello everyone it’s your host Daniel from Dulaxi, and today I have with me the exceptional heavy metal band, The Whispering from Los Angeles, United States. And The Whispering is here to discuss their recent EP “The Whispering Part 1” which was released on April 28th, 2026. So, welcome, The Whispering! But before we begin our interview, to our audience; here is what you need to know about this band.
The Whispering is a Los Angeles, United States-based heavy metal unit whose sound is defined by an uncompromising fusion of wicked metal and alternative metal intensity, led by newcomer Lucian Fhor on vocals and guitar, whose artistic vision channels themes of rebellion against injustice, oppression, ignorance, and hypocrisy through a deeply expressive and confrontational lyrical approach. The band is completed by a highly accomplished lineup featuring Loic Colin on bass (Scarve/One Way Mirror), a veteran figure in technical metal and audio production; Tobias Kellgren (Dissection) on drums, known for his longstanding presence in the Scandinavian extreme metal scene; and Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork/Megadeth), whose involvement reinforces the project’s elite rhythmic foundation. Their debut EP, “The Whispering Part 1,” released on April 28th, 2026, introduces four tracks; “The Whispering,” “Life After God,” “Evil Eye,” and “Pretty Witches”, serving as a preview of their forthcoming self-titled full-length album scheduled for fall 2026. Recorded at Besco Recording Studios in France under producer/manager Dan McConomy, mixed by Mohammad “Momo” Sadeghin, and mastered by Randy Merrill at Sterling Sound, the EP constructs a dark, immersive sonic world that opens with cryptic whispering textures and unfolds into a dimension of theatrical metal storytelling, where mythic imagery, spiritual conflict, and apocalyptic intensity converge in a tightly engineered, precision-driven soundscape released under their imprint LAG Records, with global distribution handled by The Orchard.
Having this brief Introduction about The Whispering, I’m sure new and current fans must be excited about our Interview today.
INTERVIEW SESSION
Daniel: THE WHISPERING brings together musicians with backgrounds ranging from Megadeth and Dissection to Cirque Du Soleil. How did this lineup come together, and what made this collaboration feel creatively right for the band?
THE WHISPERING: “Greetings, Daniel, It’s Lucian and Tobias from The Whispering. Great to talk with you today and Hell Yeah to the Dulaxi music community!
Conjuring The Whispering has been the most natural and supernatural experience.
The bands for mentioned have both inspired and guided us together. When forming a wicked heavy metal band, I couldn’t think of two better drummers than Tobias and Dirk. And having Loic become the glue to both the rhythm section and uniting the sound of the band. I myself often stand back in wonder at the magnificent musicianship and metal legacy that has joined together. It feels serendipitous and surreal”
Daniel: LUCIAN FHOR, your artistic identity seems deeply rooted in rebellion against injustice, oppression, and hypocrisy. What personal experiences shaped that vision and lyrical direction?
THE WHISPERING: I do not describe myself this way. I only write the music and lyrics that resonate with my heart. I often find myself disconnected from social justice and the madness of the collective. It’s easy for people to insulate and only see what confronts us directly, yet beyond our personal spaces the world moves in ways that affect us all .
How long will woman be subjected to religious dogma that suppresses their rights, bodily autonomy and equality?
Peoples self serving ignorance and entitlement to the destruction of the environment.
The indifferent torture of animals, factory farming, these are urgent issues that stir my inner rebellion.
Daniel: With members coming from different corners of the metal world, how have your individual histories and influences blended to shape THE WHISPERING’s overall sound and identity?
THE WHISPERING: We came together as a band with common influences and passion for wicked music . I have so much respect for each of these musicians in the band ! Having members of these legendary groups is a great honor and I can’t help but revel in the what we are creating together ! As a pupil of metal music, I am grateful for opportunity to celebrate of the artist that have illuminated the path and do our part to keep the light burning.
Daniel: “The Whispering Part 1” immediately creates a dark and cryptic atmosphere through its intro and lyrical imagery. What central theme or message did you want listeners to take away from this EP?
THE WHISPERING: Listen closer, look longer and go deeper. In a world of noise pollution and collective numbing , there is a whispering above and below. The mystery revealed , the veil opened and the answer already given. Stair down the fear and rage defiant and free
Daniel: Songs like “Life After God,” “Evil Eye,” and “Pretty Witches” carry striking titles filled with mystery and symbolism. What stories or concepts inspired these tracks?
THE WHISPERING: Each of these songs has a different tale to tell. Provocative titles that reveal personal experience. Much like the lore of the Evil Eye being both a protector from the darkness and a window to inner chaos , titles can also be misleading or a shield for a secret.
Daniel: The description of the record mentions “witches delight, warriors fight the good fight, and music fills the skies raging afire.” How important was world-building and imagery in constructing the album’s identity?
THE WHISPERING: Well i’m not sure about those specific descriptions. The album is an extension of our imaginations combined with our lifestyles. The world we are sharing is one of Substance and like mythology offers deeper insight the closer you look.
Daniel: LUCIAN, your lyrics are described as challenging the status quo and awakening souls. Were there any specific lines on the EP that you feel best represent the heart of THE WHISPERING?
THE WHISPERING: It’s A wild ride through the woods at night.
Daniel: The self-titled track acts as an introduction into the band’s universe almost like stepping into another dimension. Why was it important for that song to serve as the gateway into the album experience?
THE WHISPERING: The song, the whispering is an invitation . Grab hold of your fear, staring into the void , an unexpected discovery may be hiding in plain sight , the answer in your heart that awaits recognition. Shattering ourself-destruction/ delusion, understanding we will not escape the inevitability of our actions. The cosmic shifts of the universe shaping our existence without a sound or a crack in your faith because the facts persist. The answers can be found in the shadow and the light or somewhere between the two.
Daniel: The album swings between wicked metal and alternative metal with raw power and precision. How did you balance heaviness, atmosphere, and melody throughout the EP?
THE WHISPERING: It was a natural process of writing the music that lit a fire in our hearts and decorating it with an atmospheric glow to accentuate the experience. The environment around the music as a portal to another space, the heavy menacing sound of the band is the vehicle, and the melody is the single light peering into the darkness. “
Daniel: Recording at Besco Recording Studios with Dan McConomy, Mohammad “Momo” Sadeghin, and Randy Merrill created a powerhouse production team. What was the creative process like behind shaping the final sound of the record?
THE WHISPERING: We are grateful for the talents and hard work invested by the whole team!.
Recording at studio Besco in the French countryside was an ideal scenario for a band who’s members live on different continents. Living and working under the same roof for a week both bonded us as a group and melded our sound. We were isolated and focused, it was a brilliant experience!. We wanted to capture the raw sound of a band playing together . The collective energy and conversation between instruments exploding in the moment and recorded masterfully with Dan McConomy behind the mixing board . It was a thrilling process!! “
Daniel: The drumming contributions from Tobias Kellgren and Dirk Verbeuren both carry legendary reputations in metal. How did their individual playing styles influence the energy and structure of the songs?
THE WHISPERING: I am humbled to be creating heavy music with both Tobias and Dirk. Along with being two of my favorite drummers in metal , they are brilliant friends and have enhanced this experience greatly! When I first heard the Dissection Live Legacy record I was instantly drawn to the energy and danger searing from the speakers . Tobias’s drumming was a blazing and I wanted to ignite my own music with the same fire.
Even from the first demos he would send from Sweden I could hear and feel that sound.
Dirk is an alien on the drums. His precision and feel are effortless. I introduced him to the songs with some basic guitar and vocal guide demos , from that he melded our styles together and elevated the music beyond!. I continue to draw inspiration from both of them and am honored to collaborate with these metal legends !! “
Daniel: LOIC COLIN’s background in high-end audio production and technical metal is extensive. How did his musicianship and engineering mindset contribute to the musical depth of the EP?
THE WHISPERING: Loic is the dark angel of the group. He is calm and silent, mighty and thunderous. A well accomplished bassist , bandmate , engineer, friend , father and funny as hell only begin to describe Loic .
His presence in the studio made us instantly feel at home in the moment he picked up his bass the band was born. “
Daniel: LUCIAN, after years of working behind the scenes with global performances and productions, what inspired you to finally step forward with THE WHISPERING as a major artistic statement?
THE WHISPERING: I’ve been a performer in my whole life. I’ve been making art as a vehicle from my own self discovery, expression, and income. These concepts don’t always balance well and lead to concessions and moments of feeling lost in the art. With The whispering I’m throwing myself and my creation into the fire freely. I love the sound of the band, the danger and excitement culminates into the most fulfilling artistic experience I’ve had
Daniel: Performing with world-famous productions like Cirque Du Soleil requires a very different artistic discipline compared to heavy metal. How has that experience influenced your approach to live performance and stage design?
THE WHISPERING: Performing music live can be both visceral and mental. In an effort to keep it together I have found myself over thinking while performing. As a fire performer in the circus I was able to get out of my head , embrace the theatrics and stay present in the moment. Flirting with the edge can make for a heightened live experience!. My spiky blond Mohawk hair and fire guitar kept the heavy metal mystique ! “
Daniel: Tobias, you’ve been part of the metal scene since the 90s through bands like Dissection and In Flames tours. What keeps your passion for heavy music evolving after all these years?
THE WHISPERING: In a nutshell; Keeping old friends and gaining new friends through music (especially heavy).
The whispering it self is passion, evolving through sn entire new band with great and committed people. It started unexpectedly and turned out awesome. People do awesome shit together. That’s passion.
Also, not knowing what will come, ”success” or not. The only success is looking back and to feel like you’ve accomplished something along the way and still be excited about what’s around the corner.
Daniel: Dirk and LOIC, you’ve shared a musical chemistry across numerous projects over the years. How natural was it to reconnect creatively for THE WHISPERING?
THE WHISPERING: Loic and Dirk have been friends and band mates for two decades and their connection is special. It’s been a joy watching them re unite and flex their sonic telepathy on the record. They are both masterful players and open channels of collaboration. No guidance or instructions needed, they know the right thing to play before I’ve even written the songs :)! “ Shooting the music video for The Whispering was a thrill, the rhythm section re united on stage after 10 years apart!!.
Daniel: The EP feels both modern and rooted in classic heavy metal spirit. Do you see THE WHISPERING as a continuation of traditional metal values or as a reinvention of them?
THE WHISPERING: Heavy metal music has a spirit of defiance, danger, and just as it electrified me as a youth , it continues to stir my imagination. It’s a sound and feeling shared by all ages , cultures and is available to everyone who dare.
The Whispering is a singular voice in universe of heavy metal mayhem. The music that has come before has illuminated the path we shred today”
Daniel: Since the release of “The Whispering Part 1,” what reactions from listeners or fans have impacted you the most personally?
THE WHISPERING: Releasing the music into the wild feels triumphant” everything about this project feels personal to me, I’m very proud of the music and look forward to sharing it with as many people as we can.
Daniel: The band promises an immersive and powerful live experience. What can audiences expect when THE WHISPERING finally brings these songs to the stage?
THE WHISPERING: The whispering is a band of witches. The music is alive with spells , enchantments and echoes from the void . I want to leave an audience with a stirring feeling of empowerment and mischief.
Daniel: With the full self-titled album arriving later in 2026, what are your long-term ambitions for THE WHISPERING, and where do you hope this journey leads next?
THE WHISPERING: The full album release, and subsequent tour will be most magnificent. The inspiration is high and much of a follow up album is already being written. I look forward to expanding our universe and coloring it with the spirit, hearts, and magic of our extended witchy family!.
Having Had A Close Listen To This Dark, Cinematic Heavy Metal Ep, Here Are My Thoughts.
“The Whispering Part 1” by The Whispering unfolds as a deeply immersive descent into a cinematic and emotionally volatile world where heavy metal is not just performed but fully inhabited. From the opening self-titled track, I was immediately drawn into its cryptic, whisper-laced introduction that feels like a coded transmission from another dimension, setting the tone for an EP that constantly blurs the line between reality and myth. The soundscape is vast and oppressive in the most intentional way, built on thick downtuned guitars, thunderous percussion, and a low-end presence that feels physically heavy. Every transition between tracks feels deliberate, almost like chapters in a single continuous narrative rather than separate compositions, and that cohesion strengthens the EP’s identity as a unified artistic statement rather than a simple debut project. What stands out most to me is how the production, handled at Besco Recording Studios in France under Dan McConomy, later refined with mixer Mohammad “Momo” Sadeghin, and mastered by Randy Merrill at Sterling Sound, achieves both clarity and suffocating density at the same time. Nothing feels overcrowded, yet everything feels massive, layered, and emotionally charged. The vocal presence of Lucian Fhor sits at the emotional center of the EP, moving between restrained vulnerability and explosive intensity in a way that mirrors the themes of psychological conflict, rebellion, spiritual unrest, and collapse. The instrumentation supports this perfectly, with crushing riffs and atmospheric textures constantly shifting between aggression and melancholy. By the time the EP progresses through its darkest moments, it feels less like listening to music and more like being pulled through a controlled storm of fear, reflection, and release. Ultimately, “The Whispering Part 1” presents itself as a tightly constructed, emotionally heavy, and cinematic metal experience that leaves a lasting impression through both its sonic force and its conceptual depth.
